நேற்று அதிரடியாக கனேடியப் பல்கலைக்கழகத் தமிழ் மாணவர்கள் ரொரண்டோவிலிருந்த இலங்கை உப தூதரகத்தில் நுழைந்து தமது எதிர்ப்பை 25 மாணவர்கள் உள்ளேயேயும், மிகுதியானவர்கள் வெளியேயும் தமிழர்களின் மீதான படுகொலைகளுக்கான எதிர்ப்பைக் காட்டியிருந்தனர். வழமைபோல தூதரகத்தின் அதிகாரியொருவர் 'நீங்கள் தீவிரவாதிகள், உங்களுக்கு பதில் எதுவும் சொல்லத் தேவையில்லை'யென திருவாய் மலர்ந்தருளியிருந்தார். தொடர்ச்சியாக ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் தூதரலாயத்தின் முன் கூடப்போகின்றார்களென அங்கிருந்த மாணவர்களில் ஒருவர் கூறினார். 'மாணவர்களை மாணவர்களாக மட்டுமே விடுங்கள், நிறையச் சாதிப்போம்' என்று எப்போதே கேட்டு கேட்டு கடைசியில் அலுத்தது ஒருபுறம் இருந்தாலும் -காலம் கடந்ததாயினும்- மீண்டும் மாணவர்களின் எழுச்சியானது அவசியமானது; பிறர் தம் அரசியலை இம்மாணவர்கள் மீது திணிக்காதிருக்க கடவ.

300 rally outside the Sun

They chanted "Sri Lanka, stop the genocide of Tamils!" and "Toronto Sun, please help us!"
More than 300 Tamils yesterday rallied in front of the Sun's King St. E. building in an effort to bring their PR war against the Sri Lankan government directly to the mainstream media.
The peaceful noon-hour protest was the latest in a series of rallies this week by Tamils opposed to the Sri Lankan government's war against the Tamil Tiger rebels in the northern part of the country, a conflict that has trapped an estimated 250,000 civilians in the war zone and killed hundreds more.
"It's the Sri Lankan government trying to wipe out the Tamil people in Sri Lanka," said protester Siva Amarthalingan, 32.
The protesters made it clear they didn't take issue with the Sun's coverage of the ongoing civil war in Sri Lanka. They did say the entire mainstream media have been guilty of reporting the official statements from the Sri Lankan government, which they discount as spin and lies.
Protesters also wondered why the recent crisis in Gaza has garnered so much more coverage than the civil war in Sri Lanka, and called on the Canadian media to devote more coverage to the Sri Lankan conflict.
"We want to bring it to the media. Otherwise people don't know," Amarthalingan said. "We want the Canadian government to be involved in the Sri Lanka problem and get peace in Sri Lanka."
But according to the Canadian government, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (Tamil Tigers) are a terrorist organization.
The Tamil protesters disputed this.
"They are not terrorists. They are fighting for our freedom and land," said Shangeth Wijendrantam, 16.
RCMP plainclothes officers were also at the rally. When asked why they were monitoring a public protest -- something the Mounties rarely, if ever, do in Toronto -- one officer instructed a reporter to call the RCMP's media relations department.
In 2006, the RCMP raided the Toronto and Scarborough offices of the World Tamil Movement. Last year, the Canadian government branded the World Tamil Movement a terrorist organization and Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day accused the organization of being a fundraising front for the Tigers.
